Miami County criminal court records are maintained by the Clerk of Courts in Troy. This office is one of eight in Ohio that handles records for the Common Pleas Court, Municipal Court, and Auto Title services under one roof. Shawn Peeples serves as the current Clerk. Miami County Clerk of Courts Office

The Miami County Clerk of Courts has multiple locations in Troy. The Common Pleas Clerk is on the Third Floor of the Safety Building at 201 W. Main Street, Troy, Ohio 45373. The phone is (937) 440-6010 and fax is (937) 440-6011. Hours are Monday through Friday, 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM. This office handles Criminal, Civil, Domestic Relations, Court of Appeals cases, Liens, and Notary public recording.

The Municipal Clerk is at the Courthouse, 215 W. Main Street, Troy. Traffic and Criminal matters are on the Third Floor at (937) 440-3910. Civil matters are on the Second Floor at (937) 440-3919. The Auto Title Department is at 1506 One Stop Court, Suite 5, Troy, at (937) 332-6812, open until 4:30 PM.

The Clerk has authority to issue writs including summons, subpoenas, and warrants to arrest. The office files, dockets, indexes, and preserves all court pleadings, and collects all revenue tied to court costs, bonds, fines, and forfeitures. Records cover the full range of felony criminal cases, civil matters, and domestic relations filings.

How to Search Miami County Court Records

The Miami County Clerk of Courts provides online public access through their records search system. You can search by name or case number. When searching by name, enter the last name first, followed by a comma and space, then the first name. Be as specific as you can for the best results. The system covers cases from the Court of Common Pleas and Municipal Court.

The Miami County Recorder's Office also provides online searching for land records and official documents. As of late 2024, documents from 1998 to present can be searched by name or book and page. The Recorder is at 201 West Main Street, Troy, and can be reached at (937) 440-6040. For non-watermarked copies, email recorder@miamicountyohio.gov. Starting January 2026, emailed copies cost $2.00 per page.

Under ORC Section 149.43, the public has the right to access most court records without giving a reason. Sealed and expunged files are excluded from search results.

Criminal Court Records in Miami County

The Miami County Court of Common Pleas General Division handles all felony criminal offenses in the county under ORC Chapter 2301. Drug charges, assault, theft, burglary, robbery, and other serious crimes all go through this court. Records include indictments, bond info, plea entries, motions, court orders, trial transcripts, verdicts, and sentencing data.

The Municipal Court at the Courthouse handles misdemeanor criminal cases, traffic violations, and OVI cases under ORC Title 19. If a misdemeanor gets bound over to Common Pleas, the records transfer to the Clerk's office on the Third Floor of the Safety Building.

The Ohio Bureau of Criminal Investigation runs fingerprint-based background checks at $22 for state-only and $34 for combined state and FBI.
